The Strolling Player gelding will take up 126 pounds in the week-end mile and eighth special. This represents the highest impost he has carried thus far this year. Work-watchers were highly impressed with his effort this morning as he worked at an even clip under Billie Thompsons guidance. His fractions were :24*5. :37. :49% and 1:0325. Thompson also will be in the saddle Saturday. The only other candidate for the Tropical to be on the track this morning was Christopher Ranchs Argonne Woods, who finished second to Grasshopper II. in the Ponce de Leon here last Saturday. Argonne Woods breezed a mile in 1:45? 5 over the Gables strip and was under stout restraint all the way. During the running of the Ponce deLeon, the son of Broadside met some interference when Mixer tired, but the stewards ruled that Grasshopper II. wasnt to blame. Argonne Woods will take up 108 pounds in Saturdays stake. George Wallace to Ride Grasshopper II. Meanwhile, Greentrees Four Freedoms, who is expected to rival Marriage for favoritism, was merely galloped around for his customary morning exercise, trainer Leigh Cotton apparently being content that The Widener winner has his heavy training behind him. Sunday afternoon, Four Freedoms was sent the full mile and an eighth route of the Tropical in 1:55%, In a highly commendable move. George Wallace, brother of Jimmy Wallace, trainer of W. W. Crenshaws Grasshopper II.. will be here from Hot Springs, Ark., to pilot the French-bred son of Ban-star in the week-end special. The Crenshaw campaigner will have 114 pounds up, six less than Four Freedoms. His score in the Ponce de Leon was his fifth of the year and stamps him as one who must be reckoned with Saturday. Sweep Swinger, under 105. and Equinox, with 103, are considered strictly outsiders, although at the weights they could cause the more-favored contestants some trouble. Marriage now boasts earnings of 06.-505. having passed the 00,000 mark this winter. Thus far this season he has won 6,225 and has the New Orleans, Lake Charles and Coral Gables Handicaps to his credit. Following his engagement in the Tropical, trainer R. A. Coward will ship Marriage and the other members of his stable to Jamaica for a campaign on the Metropolitan circuit.
