Derby Day Weather as Whole Has Been Decidedly Favorable FavorableCHURCHILL CHURCHILL DOWNS Louisville Ky April 30 Derby Day weather since 1927 has been decidedly favorable although dur ¬ ing the last three years light showers fell In 1945 a half inch of rain came down early in the day only 01 fell in 1946 and 02 last May 3 Temperatures for those days were 77 68 and 57 respectively On three other occasions temperatures dropped below the 1947 reading 47 in 1935 and54 for the 1943 and 1944 Kentucky Derby renewals One of the wettest 24hour periods in Churchill Downs and Derby history was on May 18 1929 when 119 inches of moisture fell on theday that Clyde Van Dusen beat 20 other threeyearolds in the big event after lead ¬ ing his rivals for the major portion of the one mile and onequarter journey over a muddy track However the huge crowd which witnessed Clyde Van Dusens tri ¬ umph was none7 top comfortable the merr cury climbing to 77 degrees And Che hii niidity fcign
