Sir Date Makes Good In Sportsmans Sprint SprintBishop Bishop Racer Vindicates Strong Support in Beating Out Thunder ThunderSPORTSMANS SPORTSMANS PARK Cicero 111 April 30 William H Bishops Sir Date raced to expectations this afternoon in the Trae moor Purse continuing gamely to the end of the sevenfurlong dash to be a neck be ¬ fore Pearl Egans Thunder at the finish Happy Joan was third a length behind while Lightfoot Lady made an ineffectual run to be fourth It was an exciting contest throughout with apprentice Porch bringing home his first winner of the afternoon to the tune of 480 and covering the distance in 132 132A A tmild afternoon was enjoyed by the throng of 10336 and they may have been considered to have received their moneys worth in exciting races although only two favorites scored in the early events eventsPorch Porch put up a rousing ride on Sir Date from the beginning as the group of seven starters were closely bunched and five of them alternately held the lead position dur ¬ ing the running Hustled into a forward placing on the inside Porch elected to bring the son of Sirasia to the outside of Happy Joan New Caledonia and Thunder who were closely contesting the lead at4he half Porch was unable to open up on his rivals until rounding the final turn then took a length command but had to keep gun ¬ ning his mount at Thunder closed with determination next to the rail railApprentice Apprentice Norman had been reserving his mount after reaching the leaders and saving ground Thunder responded gamely when asked for his best in the final drive but was not good enough Happy Joan was unable to keep up in the straightaway while New Caledonia quit badly Cherry Boy claimed by Willard T Beezley from W H Bishop a couple of days ago ap ¬ peared unprepared for the start and had no opportunity to display his usual speed
