Hume Claims Pronta Costen Horses Reinstated for Purposes of Sale. San Francisco, Cal., January 9. Light raiu fell at Oakland throughout the afternoon, but not enough to seriously affect the track proper. The interesting card of six races attracted the usual large attendance and the thirty-two bookmakers had their hands full to accommodate the speculatively inclined. W. B. Jennings three-year-old Nagazam confirmed his good running behind the brilliant Dr. Gardner by winning todays chief feature at a mile from The Lieutenant. Romaine turned the tables by defeating his quondam conqueror Instructor at seven furlongs with ridiculous ease. Trainer McNames, who was questioned by the stewards after the race, declared that his horse was beaten in his preceding start by McBrides poor jockeyship and the change in riders was wholly responsible for Romaities improved showing today. As a result McBride lias been indefinitely suspended. The same order was entered against P. Phillips for his ride on Bell Reed today. Radtke and Knapp have both struck a losing streak, neither of the jockeys being much in evidence of late. C. T. Henshalls good mare Pronta was claimed out of the selling sprint by O. F. Hume and Co., the owners of Yo San, for ,025. The promising two-year-old filly by Maxlo Re-vulsa ran-avraytlnring work hours this morning, fell and broke her back, causing her destruction. L. E. Westcott has purchased Stirling Towers from the Stockton Stable at private sale. Fisher Boy was claimed yesterday by J. L. Ross for ,025. The horses owned by John Diamond Joe Costen, ruled off at Ascot Park last season, were temporarily reinstated by the Pacific Coast Jockey Club to permit their sale at auction. Intending purchasers must produce proof of bona fide sale before the horses will be allowed to start iu races. The suspension against their former owner was made permanent.
