HILDRETH IS AN OPTIMISTIC LOSER. "An odd streak of ill-luck has followed Sam HII-dreth ever since lie was reinstated by the Jockey Club last summer," says the New York Sun. "When he returned to the eastern tracks after an absence of several years, he took active control of the big stalde owned by E. E. Smathers, but for some reason the horses encountered a string of defeats that soon disheartened Similiters and caused him to sell out, lock, stock and barrel. Then Illldreth conducted a stable of his own with poor success and when the campaign closed here last fall lie was said to be a big loser. At New Orleans this winter lie lias lost 0,000 making book. But Hlldrelli is plucky and insists that there will be a turn in the long lane before next summer rolls around."
