NOTES OF THE TURF. The yearling chestnut filly by Ogden Cleophus died recently at Hamburg Place. The majority of the MIddleton and .Tungbluth mares will le bred to The Picket next year. A new stable containing one hundred stalls has just been completed at Churchill Downs at a cost of ,500. The roads adjacent to the Long Island tracks are in general use by trainers for exercising purposes these days. Information as to the whereabouts of George ltexanson, formerly of Hamilton, Out., supposed to be connected with some stable, is desired. Julius Bauer has abandoned the idea of training Igniter again and will retire the son of Lamplighter to the stud at Kenmore Farm near Lexington,- Ky. Frank McCabe Is the owner of the two-year-old colt by Kilmarnock Miss Buttermilk, and he says the youngster gives promise of making a good horse. Sam Hildrcth mated Brush By with Ben Strome last spring; but lie is likely to be disappointed In the result, for It is now said that the mare Is not in foal. In addition to the nine horses at New Orleans, A. L. Aste has twenty-one horses wintering at Skcepshcad Bay. lie lias decided to sell off some or all of those at Xew Orleans. The new quarters for jockeys at Sheepshead Bay will. Superintendent Clark says, be the most complete In the country. The buildlug is up and only the finishing touches are to be put on. Milburn Thompson has been granted a license by the Jockey Club and will do much of the riding for John E. Maddens stable this year. The boy was out of the saddle last season because of illness. The meeting at City- Park is scheduled to close March 31, but there is talk of the possibility of an extension of ten days. The matter, however, depends upon the decision as to the constitutionality of the Tennessee law. Charles F. Price will again perform the duties of presiding judge at the spring meeting of the Xew Louisville Jockey Club and Richard Dwyer will do tin? starting. Joseph A. Murphy will probably be associated In the stand with Judge Price. The chestnut lilly May L. X., by Ossary Plu-meria, carded to start in the first race at Oakland tomorrow, is a full sister to Sir Wilfred. She is the property of the Cameron Stable and is reported to have shown better as a yearling than did her speedy brother.
