JACK YOUNG WINS HIS RACE AT THE START. Wins Ting Is Beaten at the Barrier Canajoharie on His Good Behavior. Hot Springs, Ark., March 14. There was good racing at Oakiawn today, notwithstanding unfavorable weather and track conditions. Speculation was brisk and the books lost heavily. Starter Snydws work was a bit ragged. In the third race three of the five starters were almost left at the lost. Jack Young had practically a walkover. He might have won anyway, but the fact that Lubin closed a tremendous gap and finished second after his bad send-oft left room for doubt as to Jack Youngs superiority. Wing Ting, backed for a good thing, was almost left at the post in the youngster, race. That she was much the best was proved when she finished second after her case looked hopeless. With the exception of Canajoharie, in the fourth race, favorites and second choices were returned winners in all the races. The little boy Callus scored on Haughty and Harmakis, both favorites. Before the racing began F. J. Pons purchased Heine Regente from "Jack" Keene for the reported prlc of ,000. The betting privileges at the Memphis spring meeting may not be controlled by Messrs. Cella, Adler and Tllies. It is said to be the intention of the club to place a representative in charge of the ring and Invite all reputable bookmakers to put up their slates. But for the opposition of President S. It. Montgomery the meeting at the Bluff City, it is said, would be conducted independently of either of the turf governing bodies.
