Kara raced along with the leaders until on the turn out of the backstretch, where he rushed to the front when Dab-gave him his head and, opening a winning lead before the stretch turn was reached, was eased up all through the last sixteenth. Captain Bush began slowly and had to work his way up on the outside, but finished fast and was easily best of the others. America II. ran well, but was tiring at the end and had to stand a hard drive to stall off Dr. McCluer. The latter finished gamely. Chief Archibald showed early speed, but tired. Eurocla was eased up when she tired. Goldway evidently does not like sloppy going. Monterey found a track made to order for him, broke well and Nicol let him step along fast for the first eighth, then took him under mild restraint and raced him along in front until on the turn out of the backstretch. where he shook off St. Joseph and held the race safe all through the last quarter. St. Joseph lost ground .n the turn into the homestretch, but came again when straightened out and outgamed Debar at the end. Debar slipped through next to the inside rail on the turn into the homestretch and saved ground, then made a game challenge at the furlong post, but tired in the last eighth under a drive and may be training off. Kargut showed speed for the first eighth, but tired and Larsen took him back. Kercheval finished gamely. Tanibeau was bumped into and interfered with when the start came and Austin pulled him up. The latter began slowly, but closed a big gap and finished with a rush. Double showed early speed today and moved up with a rush on the turn into the homestretch, but. tired at the end under a drive. Morendo maile up a lot of ground In the last quarter. Mynheer can do better. Ing.ilthtift showed speed, but quit badly.
