SUCCESS OF KEENE BROTHERS AT OAKLAWN. They Are Winning About 00 Per Day Jockey Radtke Better Than any Horse. During the first twenty days of the present meeting at Oakiawn track. Hot Springs, J. O. Keene and his brother Hamilton started sixteen horses in 54 races, won 27 of them, were" second four times, third six times and unplaced seventeen times, the total In prize money being 0,450. These winners were ridden by jockey Herman Radtke. On six of the twenty days the Chicago lad was restricted to mounts from the stable of his employers, having :een punished to that extent by starter Snyder, whose orders at post he had disregarded. Yet ICadtke rode just 100 times in those twenty days, winning fifty-two races, being second sixteen times, third thirteen times and unplaced nineteen times. This shows 52 per cent, winners. Had these figures been before the New York Suns tnrf critic a day or two ago he would probably not have expressed surprise that J. O. Keene had refused the, offers of Barney Schreiber, L. A. Cella and Paul Rainey for the contract on the services of Kadtke. Schreibers offer was ,000, made at San Francisco some seven or eight weeks ago. Cella made his offer of 0,000 before the Oakiawn meeting was a week old. Another week elapsed and "Bub" May, who is training the horses of Rainey, offered 5,000. A few days later Hunter Raine, the Memphis banker, acting for Mr. Rainey, it is said, offered 5,000. At the present rate the Keene Brothers are winning about 00 per day in stakes and purses. More than a few of these victories have been due to the masterly riding of the jockey rather than to the superiority of the horse. "Jack" Keene knows the capabilities of this marvelous youngster. He perceived them last summer at Union Park when he lxiught the contract from J. F. Davis The boy has long since remunerated his present employer for his foresight. Keene knows that Radtke is worth more to him than any horse that he might buy for 5,000 or even double that amount, Hence It would seem that he is amply justified in refusing the offers that have been made. The following is a record of the performances and earnings of the Keene horses during those first twenty days at Oakiawn: Horses. Sts. 1st. 2d. .d. Unp. Won.
