CONTENT WINS TWENTIETH LAT0NIA OAKS. Shows a Liking for the Mud Steeplechase Jockey Pemberton Has Ribs Broken. Cincinnati, O., June 19. Woodford Clay knew mighty well what he was about when he shipped Content out here from New York to win the twentieth Latonia Oaks, which was the feature of the card at the Kentucky track today. She scored an easy victory, yet Sister Frances was contentious enough to make the race interesting for seven furlongs. Mr. Bakers speedy filly had shown exceptionally well In her work for the race and on that account was supported by the owner and his connections. In view of the fact that it was her first start this year, her performance was excellent. With a race in her she might possibly have won. The track was sloppv. just the kind that Lady Navarre fancies most, .so it Is doubly unfortunate that the Ellison filly was an absentee. The injury to Lady Navarres leg has improved rapidly in the last twenty-four hours. The filling has all gone down and ir she had not had a let-up, trainer Stroube would have started her. The steeplechase was the spectacular feature of tlie program and furnished the usual mishaps. Pemberton, rider of Signal Light which fell at the last obstacle, had two or three ribs fractured in addition to other injuries and was taken to the hospital. It was a disastrous day for the followers of favorites, as with the exception of Content the choices were bowled over In one-two-three order, the woes of the public culminating, when Knowledge won easily at odds of 20 to 1. Elude, winner of the first race, was bid up by C. C. McCafferty from 00 to 1906.sh00 and retained for the stable. McCaffertys claim for Bedford yesterday was protested on the ground that it was not made within the prescribed time. The judges sustained McCafferty, who retains possession of the horse. , .1. W. Colt, the eastern steeplechase owner, was a visitor at he track. Mr. Colt is in search of raw jumping material. Ed. Dealy has purchased from John McClernand tlie horse Daniel C. Terms private. The judges iiued jockey T. Taylor 5 for rough riding In the first race. Jockeys Seder and Dupee were each fined 0 by the starter for disobedience at the post.
