ROCKINGHAM PARKS AUSPICIOUS OPENING. Feature Race Goes to Lotus Eater Betting Is Conducted on the Credit System. Salem, N. II., June 2S. Rockingham Park, the licautlfiil new track of the New England Breeders Club, was opened auspiciously today with a lar-e crowd in attendance. It was estimated at 12,000. Special trains were run from I.oxtnn, thirty-four miles distant, and all the "near-bv New England cities contributed their share of race-goers The feature, the New England Handicap, of -000, for three-year-olds and up at a mile and a furlong, was won by Lotus Rater, the Drake pair being second and third. The weather was warm hut delightful and the track surprisingly fast for a otirse so new. Notices were posted aronnd strictly prohibiting betting. However, there was betting by the nod. That is no money was passed and settlements were made away from the track. The prices were displayed on cards by the layers, but there was no ring formation or stools in evidence.
