STARTING BARRIERS ARE IMPERFECT. "Tho perfect barrier has never yet been built," said starter Dade, after a recent start in which one of the horses caught the webbing in his mouth and mixed the field np sadly. "Some day one will come along with a barrier that will move quickly enough when released to prevent such accidents. Until then they are liable to occur at any time, however careful a starter may be."-
