CHARLIE EASTMAN BREAKS A TRACK RECORD Buffalo, N. Y., July 23. An evenly balanced card produced good contests at Fort Erie this afternoon. Five of the races furnished close finishes and in four of them the winners were forced to sinew-straining drives to land in front by a. head or a neck. It was Ladies Day and, as usual on occasions of tills kind, the grandstand was well filled, fully 3,000 turning out to witness the sport. Clique, winner of the opening race, furnished the surprise of the afternoon. Odds of 00 to 1 was quoted against her. She ran a good, game race, carrying Oleasa along at a pace that made her retire nfter they had gone a half mile and when Henry Ach made his challenge in the homestretch, Clique had enough left to beat him out a short head. lu the last four races hackers of the choices reaped their harvest. Charlie Eastmans performance in the feature race, a five and a half furlongs handicap, was a good one. He conceded weight to everything in the race and won by a head from Governor Otman, the time, 1:004, being a new track record. Jockey Minder, who is riding here, has received an offer to return to Cincinnati and ride for George Baldwin. Minder is negotiating for an engagement in Austria next year. Starter Mars Cassidy is expected here tomorrow. He comes to spend n few days with some friends in Buffalo. Walter Parmer, secretary of the Highland Park Club, Is arranging a pigeon shooting match to take place during Cassldys visit. When Cassidy was starting on the Canadian circuit, he was rated as one of the best shots in this part of the country.
