GOOD SPORT AT LATONIA. OLD STONE TAKES MISS DOYLES MEASURE IN A HARD RACE. Major T. J. Carson Manages to Outlast Colonel Jim Douglas in the Handicap Lens Regains His Form Woodson Goes Wrong Again. Cincinnati, O., August 4. Clear, pleasant weather, an unusually good program, a big holiday crowd and a fast track were conditions that made excellent sport at Latonia today. The star numbers of the offerings were a free handicap at seven furlongs and a condition purse at a mile, both of which brought out good fields and resulted In splendid contests. Mose Goldblatt broke his streak of bad luck when Old Stone won the mile race in a hard drive with Miss Doyle. Major T. J. Carson, the public choice, just managed to last long enough to beat Colonel Jim Douglas in the handicap. The latter ran a good race at the weight. He was cut off at the start and slightly Interfered with at other points in the Journey. The other races resulted In close finishes. Pat Duunes speedy colt, Lens, showed by his easy victory In a good field that he had regained his New Orleans form and is about the best two-year-old now here. II. McCarren, Jr., today leased Miss Doyle and Demo from P. J. Mlllett. The remainder of Mr. Milletts horses, with the exception of those shipped east, will be turned out. Woodson, which has not started since he ran second to Highball in the American Derby of 1904, has again gone amiss and this time, it is thought, for good. The horse had been going sound and it was believed that he had overcome his ailment, but after a stiff trial at seven furlongs in 1:27, galloping out the mile in 1:42, he pulled up lame and later showed a return of his old trouble about the legs. He will be shipped to Lexington and turned out. Collonades victory in the first race proved costly to his owner, as J. C. Milam bid him up 00 over ills entered price of 00. He was retained with an advance bid. After Jim Bozcmans acrobatic performance yesterday, the judges decided to bar him from starting here in future. James II. Young, business manager of the Latonia racetrack, made formal application to the Kentucky State Racing Commission today for an extension for the racing dates here to September 1. The Racing Commission will meet in Lexington Tuesday and pass upon this application, .as well as those to be presented for Douglas Park and Churchill Downs. J. C. Milam Jias decided to rest his horses for a wliile and will ship all those he has in training here on Monday next to Lexington. They will be put In training again at the fall meeting at Louisville. Jockey J. Daly will arrive here on Monday next and accept mounts for the remainder of the meeting. Jockey .Tost was fined 3 by the judges for rough riding in the first race. J. S. Bratton has disposed of Wakeful and She-lagh to L. Brodaus, for the reported price of 00. Both horses will be shipped to Mexico, where they will be raced. Bratton has also decided to send at the close of tills meeting to New York, the horses Bryne of Roscrea. Dalesman nut Flying Rain Cloud. Jockey Gaddy will accompany the outfit and ride the horses in the steeplechases. There will be no jumping races at Douglas Park this year. S.
