Frank Gill Jumped into the lead at the start and set a stiff pace, at the end of the first three furlongs shook off his nearest attendants and came on and won off. Somnus, always in nearest pursuit of the winner, tired In the last quarter, but gamely stood a drive to save second place. Cave Adsum closed up steadily Into a good third and ran. a superior race at the velghts. El Capitan, away poorly, closed a big gap. Shackle ran forwardly for a half, but failed to stay. War Paint moved up rapidly in the last half, made a miraculous recovery from a blunder at the third from the last obstacle and came on again Into a fast going second, hut swerved into New Amsterdam, for which he was disqualified. New Amsterdam tired at the end of a long and strenuous early pursuit of" the winner and was fouled in the stretch. Come Jn went well for a mile. Salvidere outclassed the others. was carefully and skillfully reserved behind the pacemakers for a half mile, then ran Into the lead when called on in the last quarter and won as his rider pleased. Lord Lovat liegan slowly, but steadily improved his position in the last half, getting up for second place in the last stride. Penarrls outbroke the others and forced the pace, hut went wide on the last turn and succumbed in the last furlong of a game effort. Yowric, away poorly, was rushed up to the leaders and helped to force tbe pace, tiring right at the end of a good effort. James Crawford closed a big gap in the last half anI the same applies to Charles G. Gates. Remiss showed superior speed and finished well up. Dan Buhre displayed good early speed. Albert F. was Injudiciously sent to outrun the favorIt2 and tired to a standstill at the end, but was easily second best. Flimnap bluffed for half the journey and then dropped out of contention.
