CORRIGAN PAIR RUNS ONE-TWO IN STAKE. John Carroll Wins Canadian Sportsmans Handicap and Alma Dufour Is Second. " Buffalo, N. Y August 4. The Canadian Sportsmans Handicap at one and one-eighth miles, carrying with it a value of ,500, was the magnet that attracted a large crowd to Fort Erie today. John Carroll and Alma Dufour, shipped here from Latonia by Edward Corrigan, ran first and second. They were the best horses in the race. Although Peter Sterling had a rough Jpurney all through the race, he was not good enough to beat either of the Corrigan horses today. Peter Sterling was installed favorite at 7 to 10, but toward post time his odds steadily lengthened and at post time 6 to 5 was the price. A heavy plunge on the Corrigan pair drove them Into favoritism at post time. Both Alma Dufour and John Carroll will be shipped back to Latonia early next week. Mr. Corrigan will enter extensively in the Toronto stakes and will ship the pick of his stable to Woodbine after the close of the Latonia meeting. Tommy McGee was here to see the race. He says jockey John Daly, who rode Alma Dufour, will ride for Mr. Corrigan the remainder of the year. Steeplechase jockey Dayton was fined 5 for rough riding in the steeplechase today.
