E. R. THOMAS BUYS ALEX SHIELDS STABLE. Reported to Have Paid 00,000 for the Lot Willie Shields Will Train Them. Saratoga, N. Y., August 17. E. R. Thomas plunged in thoroughbred stock today. He bought Alex Shields stable of racers outright, paying, it is said, approximately 00,000 for the string, which Includes Go Between, Halifax, Diamond and others. Go Between will carry Mr. Thomas colors pearl jacket and red cap in the Great Republic Stakes tomorrow. Willie Shields has been engaged as trainer at a big salary and a percentage of the stables winnings. Alexander Shields will take a long vacation, spending the next twelve months in Europe. John Shields will accompany him.
