In the closing sprint, running quite tq his best, form. ., Firebrand raced strenuously with the. winner for tliree furlongs and then tired, but was, skillfully nursed home to save third place. Pythia, on the Inside, tried waiting tactics with disastrous results, was shut off on the last turn . and finished fast,. hut. boring out- Aeronaut.ivas.cro.wded-out. at, the, start.and Jost.a .half dozen lengths, then trailed throughout, looming up momentarily in the stretch, but again dropped back. Winner B. f, by Oddfellow Ktliel Thomas trained by B. E. Beach. Went to post at 3:00. At post 5 minutes. Start fair. Won driving: second and third the same. Ocean Spray, luckily and forwardly placed for six furlongs, was impeded on the last turn, but finished fast aud eventually got up in the last stride of a somewhat belated stretch run. Graceful, always In forward contention, loomed up when straightened for home and. after a long struggle, drew away, but was caught right at the end by the winner. Memories, from a Hying start, made most of her advantage and injudiciously made the running, setting a very stiff pace and eventually giving way in the stretch, but is very good. Azelina, si milled back In the early running, closed up well in the last half and ran an extra good race. Sonoma Belle, nearly left, closed an immense gap and ran a cracking good tace. Lady Ellison, shuffled back repeatedly, closed up from last place into a fast going sixth close up. Suffice was badly messed about and not quite good enough. Pirate Polly got away badly and had scant chance. Bribery and Silver Wedding both showed a lot of speed, but failed to stay. Inferno took a good forward position at the start and, after Indulging the pacemakers with the lead while under a pull for a mile, was sent to the front In the stretcli and won with plenty in reserve. Yorkshire Lad, skillfully reserved In the early running, was held together to such good advantage that lie got into n close second with a good stretch sprint. Little Scout kept well up from the start and, as usual, finished fast, but Is not quite good enough here except In soft going. Von Tromp, showing quick improvement, from a poor start raced into the lead on the backstretch, but fell back after a sharp brush with the favorite, tiring badly in the last few strides. Reservation, after trailing far in the rear for a mile, closed up well In the last quarter. Old Faithful went well for seven furlongs and was free from soreness today. Start straggling. Won driving; second and third the same. Loring, from a good start on the inside, was rushed through a lucky opening at the half and led to the end, going very gamely and is a superior class fllly. Bemay was always in nearest pursuit of the leader and menaced the winner all through the stretch, putting up a superior effort. Monfort tried to run out in the early stages and got into a bad jam at the half, lost considerable ground and finished rapidly, rui.-ning a game race. Tileing, shut off early, closed a big gap and finished boring out, but going like a shot. Clara Huron held her own well for a half mile, then tired. Rappahannock displayed early speed and then dropped to the rear on the far turn. The others were far outclassed. Start straggling. Won in a canter; second easily; third the same. Heasllp ran into the lead at the start and won all the way never fully extended. Ed Ball held second place safe all the way and was as much the best of the others and ran a brilliant race. Macy Jr., away badly, closed an immense gap and put up a remarkable effort. Water Dog had a rough journey and closed up a lot of ground in the last half. Oarsman also closed a big gap from a bad start, but tired from the effort. Varietes ran a good race. Cholk Hedrick and Celeres finished fast. Yada quit badly. Tourenne, from a flying start on the inside, essayed to force the pace, but was shuffled back on the tnrn, was waited with and drove through on the Inside in the last furlong, scoring by a narrow margin. Fish Hawk, away in the lead, made the running and appeared all over the winner on the last turn, finished gamely, but Garner failed to perceive Tourenne on the inside until too late. Lally was In forward contention for five furlongs, tiring right at the end and ran a very good race. Puritan Girl, awav sioniy and hampered all the way, was going easily at the end and can do much better. Dick Finnell ran promlncntlv throughout. Prince Fortunatus was a forward contender to the stretch, where he quit badly. Tiro was easing up in the last quarter.
