FAST TIME AT SARATOGA. TIPTOE RUNS SIX FURLONGS IN 1:12 1-5 TO WIN THE HANDICAP. Heaslip Covers the Mile in 1:38 3-5 Eainoy Brothers .Win a Big Wager Stewards Question Aeronauts Race Austin Is Injured. Saratoga, N. Y., August. 17. Inferno, the Canadian champion, scored a hollow victory In the handicap at one mile and a quarter today. He was never extended to beat Yorkshire Lad, Little Scout, Von Tromp and others, cconceding big weight all around. This was the real feature of the program, notwithstanding that it provided a much more valuable stake fixture in the Troy Selling Stakes, for two-year-olds, at five and a half furlongs, in which Lorlng, second choice in the betting, skillfully and alertly ridden by Finn, won a fast race in a hard drive. Many big wagers were lost on Millers mount, Monfort. This colts erratic disposition was chiefly responsible for his defeat. Mr. Belmont was the happiest man at the track when Tiptoe showed her heels to a lot of sprinters in the curtain raiser at six furlongs, done in the very fast time of 1:121. Aeronaut was the favorite, but ran poorly in Pcrrines hands. The stewards bad the rider before them and interrogated him. The race will be investigated and it looks bad for the accused jockey. Austin, the western jockey, riding Braden In the fifth race, was thrown when the latter fell and was badly Injured. The unfortunate rider was taken to the Saratoga Hospital where it was found that he had sustained a compound fracture of the right arm and several severe bruises about the bead. He will recover. P. J., and R. A. Rainey had a heavy wager on their crack colt .Heaslip in this race. The average lrice obtained for their commission was 13 to 20. Heaslip was entered to be sold for 00 and escaped a boost. The time l:3Sg, was the fastest of the meeting and by alleged selling platers was going some. Adolph B. Spreckcls, of California, and W. P. Fraser, secretary and general manager of the Ontario Jockey Club were visitors at the course today.
