RAIN AND MUD AT THE KENTUCKY TRACK. Subador, Odds-on Favorite, Wins Steeplechase Hut-bards Poor Race Due to Injury. Cincinnati, O., August 17. Rain, which began falling about noon and continued through the afternoon, made the Latonia track muddy today and withdrawals were numerous. The much maligned jumpers somewhat redeemed themselves when Subador, heavily backed at odds-on, led his company by a big margin throughout and won as his rider pleased by eight lengths. Some ring tactics were attempted in the betting. An early effort was made to draw attention to Weird. The handicappers and smart speculators would have none of Weird and bet their money as confidently on Subador, because of his excellent mud running, as they would "have done on a flat race. Mr. Corrigaus green jumper Baveno performed poorly. He seemed to get tangled up In the going and after going the first half mile of the journey he dropped entirely out of it, although he fenced in good style. The hottest betting of the afternoon was on Fon-soluca and Hubbard in the fifth race. Hubbard ran a poor race. It was accounted for in the statement that he had been cut badly just above a coronet. The start in the sixth race was bad. Potter, Frank Bill and Optional were all that got away, the others being practically left at the post. Nicol returned after a days rest and rode two winners out of five mounts.
