HARMAKIS WINS THE WINDSOR HANDICAP. Not a Favorite Is First on the Opening Day at the Canadian Track. Detroit, Mich., August 25. An excellent card of seven races, including the Windsor Handicap, lor all ages, was prepared by Secretary Parmer for the opening dny at Windsor. Not one pronounced favorite got home in front, two of the races going to the second choices and the others to horses with long prices against their chances. Harmakis, one of the long shots, won the feature race. Harmakis had a rough journey. He was cut off and messed about. Properly ridden, he would have won the race with all ease. Embarrassment, the favorite, was off in a good enough position, but seemed to lack speed and finished fourth. Jockey Hogg had a narrow escape from serious injury In the last race today. He was riding George Vivian and got into a jam at the half-mile ground. The horse fell and rolled over him, but beyond a few bruises and a severe shaking up, he received no other injuries. J. H. Baker will ship his horses to Latonla tomorrow. Jockey McKinneys saddle slipped and he rode Sartor Resartus practically bareback over the last three jumps and finished second.
