The . racing at Douglas Park today brought to a close a successful inaugural meeting. The management claims to have, made money on the venture and "expresses gratification with, the results. For. a getaway, offering, Sec-J relary Natbausou prepared au attractive program, but the heavy-rains during the early, hours left, the track in miserable condition, consequently with- drawals were numerous, but on the whole the sport-was good. The handicap at three-quarters of a mile brought together the best sprinters at the track and resulted in one of the best contests of the day. Platoon, carrying top weight and only considered slightly in the speculation, scored a brilliant victory, over Hector, .the favorite, with Marvel P. close up. Favorites were defeated in all the races and followers of form fared badly. Judge Hamilton announced after the race3 that" all suspensions, with the exception of Perrett and Oregar, expired with the running of thev last race. Perrett and Oregar will remain under the ban for an imleffinite period. T. P. Walkers horses, thirteen in number, have arrived here from Canada and will be raced at Churchill Downs. Jockey NIcol arrived from Chicago this morning. He will ride at Churchill Downs. Jack Shine, owned by Fred Cook, over which much ado was made because of his defeat in the east, was a starter In the third race. His performance was a poor one. He evidently disliked the going for he was a bad trailer all the way.
