STAKES TO BE DECIDED AT BRIGHTON BEACH. Some Capital Racing During the Week The-Brighton Cup Should Produce a Grand Contest. With racing at Gravesend disposed of for the present year Brighton Beach comes In for a week of activity and then the scene of operations shifts to Belmont Park. Although the Brighton Beach autumn meeting is a short one It is marked by the decision of some highly important, stakes and some capital racing will come off between now and, next Saturday night. Tomorrow afternoon the rich Produce Stakes, for two-year-olds, will be run, In two races; one for the fillies engaged and the other , for the colts and geldings. The names of the probable starters appear in the entry lists published today. The conspicuous feature is- the absence of. a J. Jt. Keene nomination to the colts division of the big .race. Tuesday afternoon will be marked by the running of the Cup Preliminary. This is a mile and a half dash, uxclusively for horses engaged In the Brighton Cup and affords an interesting tryout for the greater event. Long distance races are usually contested by small fields, but the Prellnilnary has quite a number of horses eligible that are ready to race" and more than an . ordinary number may go to the post on this occasion. Proper, Oxford, Flip Flap, The Picket, Brancas, Lady Savoy, Merry Lark, Dolly Spanker and Bight Royal are all in condition and among the other eligiblcs are Alwln, -Santa Catallna, Agile, Kurokl, Sir Huon, Disobedient, Tradition; Cairngorm and Mohawk II. No horse appearing to overshadow the others, may very well encourage owners to take a chance that will result In the best races ever run for the Preliminary and the Cup also. The stake for Wednesday is the Mercury Handicap, for two:year-olds and over, at three-quarters of a mile.
