DUNLAP WANTS 0,000 DAMAGES. Los Angeles, Cal., October 3. A. G. Dunlap has put lu a claim against an express company for 0,000 damages for the death of his two racers. Hoodwink and Katherine C, which died from the effects of cold caused by being drenched while lu transit from Seattle to Los Angeles. The roof of the ear in which the horses were shipped .was in a defective condition and during a rain storm before the car was taken out of the Seattle yards, the horses were drenched, Katherine C. dying before the train crossed the Oregan state line, and Hoodwink dying at Sacramento. Katherine G. was by Marius and was bought by Dunlap from A. IS. Spreckels as a yearling for ,500, She started ten times this season, winning once, running second twice, third twice and was unplaced five times. Hoodwink was valued at ,000 as a brood mare, aud, being by the great Watercress, possessed a greater valuation for breeding purposes than as a racer, although she had started more than one hundred times aud, in her best form, was one of the moat consistent of racers. Dunlap is a Los Angeles .horseman and has recently completed a large barn on Central Avenue, near Ascot Park, for his horses. The death of Katherine C. and Hoodwink leaves him only four horses for next season.
