THE TWO-YEAR-OLD LEADER IN RACES WON. Frank Lord is not rated among the topnotchers of the two-year-olds of- 1906, but lie has certainly earned his portion of fame. Beginning an industrious career at the older New Orleans track, January 24, he lias been in active training ever since and apparently thrives on hard work and frequent races, having never been better than now. lie has not carried stake weights against recognized good ones of his age, but that does not signify much. He may be able to take-un his-122 pounds and run faster and farther than some of the reputed clacks of his age. He has won more races than any other two-year-old of 1900. He now lias fifteen wins to his credit and seems such a hardy customer that it is quite probable he will add a- half dozen, or so more, before the close- of racing at Aqueduct next November. He belongs to a ; strenuous Irish gentleman who docs. not believe his horses should eat the oats of idleness, so if he keeps on in his present way there is "no means n" forecasting what his winning score may be at the end of the year. Early in the year at New Orleans lie won Iris first start and out of seven races at the Crescent City Jockey Clubs track, he won four outright, ran a .dead heat and divided with Bemay for another, was SC-cond. in one and unplaced in one. His. second was to Bemay, in the Carnival Stakes. From New Orleans he was taken to Memphis and started for the Gaston Hoi-el Stakes and ran unplaced to Horace E.. Fountainblue and Rio Grande. To pay expenses he then won a purse from Be Oro and Rifleman at a half mile in 50, Jack.Atkln being unplaced in this race. He was then taken, east and at the Jamaica spring meeting, won the Elmhurst Stakes from Be may, Athens and four more. Ail hail up light weights and with ninety-seven pounds he ran five-eighths in 1:00$, and set a, new track receord. Then he ran third to Tileing and.Acrobat for the Suffolk Stakes and unplaced to Blue Dale and Master Lester ia a half mile dash for a purse, run in 47JS. At Belmont Park lie won a four and a half furlongs dash for a purse, from Russell. T., Momentum and some others in :51, and with 107 pounds up ran un placed to Bclcast, 101; Mexican Silver, 90, and others at live furlongs, In 1:01. At the. Gravesend spring meeting, he won a purse at live-eightlis from Al Powell and twelvo more, over a slow traclTjn 1:02 J, with 103 pounds up and ran second to Master Lester at the same distance in 1:02, carrying 105 pounds to the winners 102. At the Sheepshead Bay summer meeting he ran second to Monfort, at live and a half furlongs, in 1:07; second to Solly M., at live and a half furlongs over the grass course, In 1:09; second to J. C. Core, at live furlongs straight, in :59, and won the Pansy Stakes..over the turf, course at three-quarters, beating Gold Lady, Mexican Silver and several others in 1:138. He did not run at Saratoga, hut had Avon a purse at Brighton Ueacli, at five.. and,, a half furlongs, in 1:P7, with 107 pounds on his back. , At the Sheepshead Bay fall meeting ;he ran. seqoqd to Theyre Off, at three-quarters, in 4,:12J, and unplaced to Tomaceo, at live and a half furlongs, In 1:07J. At the Gravesend fall meeting he ran tin-placed in the Flatlands Stakes and then changed his tactics and won four races in succession. September 19 ho won from Oraculum, Blondy and nine;more at five and a. half furlongs, 102 pounds up, in 1:0S2. September 25 he defeated Killochan, Tileing and eleven other youngsters over the "about" three-quarters course. He carried 107 pounds nnd-won by six lengths, in 1:10?.. The next day lie won the most important triumph of his career so Xar when he defeated Eddie Ware, Sewell, Bat Mas"te.rsoii, Superman and other good performers in the Holly Handicap, over the .same conrse. He was lucky at the start and, with 105 pounds, ran the distance in J.;10J. His next and latest performance was to win. a handicap for all ages. This, was over the same course- as his preceding two successes nnd, carrying ninety-five pounds, he won by a length and a half from Killaloe, 100; Halifax, 120, and four otliers. The track was not at its best and the, race was run in 1:11. Like Lady Amelia, he seems to find the peculiar Gravesend "about" three-quarters admirably designed to bring about his best expositions of goods form. If the stiff campaigning given him thh?.year does not affect him unfavorably, that is a point to" bear in mind when racing is resumed at Gravesend next May.
