DAVIS CASE WILL BE TRIED NOVEMBER 5. United States Attorney Baker Protests Strongly Against Further Continuance Suggests Raid. Washington, D. C, October 12. United States Attorney Baker, prosecutor of the case of William Davis, bookmaker, who was indicted . for laying odds on the races at the Bennings track last spring, protesting against a further continuance of the case ! said: "Unless .this , case is set for trial before the fall meeting of the Washington Jockey Club next month, I shall feel compelled to direct a general raid on all the bookmakers at the opening of the meeting." The. Supreme Court of the District of Columbia ordered that trial be had on November C in order to test the legality of bookmaking before the fall race meeting begins.
