Rathowen was deficient in early speed, but finished well. John G. Cavanagh showed much the most early speed, but quit badly. The others refused to lireak. The race was a hot contest all through, with Woolgatherer drawing1 away in the last half mile to win ridden out. Northvllle Is a good green steeplechaser, went well throughout and easily disposed of Pure Pepper. The latter was close up for over two miles, then tired badly. Dick Roberts seemed the winner for two and a half miles, then fell lame. Pete Dalley was reserved to the last half mile and, after cutting Game Cock off on the home turn, came on nnd won going away. The Colonel moved up fast in the last half and outstayed Game Cock for second place. The latter showed the most speed for a mile, but tired in the deciding drive. His rider claimed a foul against Pete Dailey, but it was not allowed. OrlCamme went a good mile and tired.
