RUNNING WATER SCORES. THE CRACK . FILLY HAS A CLOSE CALL IN DEFEATING FRANK GILL BY A NOSE. Track . Records . Broken at Aqueduct Veil a Very Fast Filly Tourenne Sold for .,. a Big: Sum. New York. November 10. The last Saturday of the Metropolitan racing season brought a bumper i-rowd to Aqueduct this afternoon which included three stakes. The card was very attractive and the "weather simply perfection. Running Water, the champion threeJyear-old filly of the year, rounded out a brilliant season of racing with a victory in the Edgemerc Handicap, at one mile and a furlong. It took nil of "wizard" Millers skill to nose out Iter juvenile opponent, Frank Gill, getting the verdict in the very last stride.. It was one of the closest finishes of the year and the majority of spectators were of the opinion that it was the nearest approach to a dead heat seen in a long time. The Beldame, for two-year-olds, over the five lurlong straightaway course, was marred by a bad start. Barbary Belle, the heavily backed second choice, being virtually left at the post and consequently eliminated as a contender. Very few of the spectators were aware of the fact, otherwise there might have been a hostile demonstration of a serious character. The E. It. Thomas filly was heavily backed by both her owner and the public. Veil, the recently graduated .maiden from J. It. Kcenes stable, won like a good one and fully justified the reports of her wonderful private workouts. Expansionist was ridden to advantage in the Queensboro Steeplechase Handicap and was lucky to beat the badly-handled Yama Christy, which" finished with a sudden and belated end rush. B. L. Bernstein, a .steward of "the Trinidad Jockey Club, lias been attending-the local racing during the past week. The Itye Club, a Bowery organization, named in honor of the: great little horse Itye will give a smoker tonight. . The millionaire Toronto turfman It.
