NEW YORK TURF RESULTS. HUGE AGGREGATE OF MONEY PAID TO OWN- ERSf,BY; STATES JOCKEY CLUBS. . . . W... James R. Keene Again Leads the Owners Accountant First Among Horses Millers Remarkable Record Leading Trainers. Considered as a racing field the New York tracks, including Kenilworth Park, Buffalo, relumed to winning owners this year the gross sum of ,440,-S3.1. For the previous year the entire product was ,-107,470, so there was a falling off in owners winnings to the extent of C,G37. A part of this is accounted for by the fact that the. meeting of the United Hunts Association was held at Bennings this year, whereas last year it took place at Morris Park and produced 4,755. Then Brooklyn, Saratoga and Buffalo combined, curtailed their expenditures in stakes to the extent of 1,515, which was not altogether made up by increased offerings at the other tracks. The change in value of the Great Kepublic Stakes alone almost accounts for the diminution at Saratoga. The difference Is trifling and hardly worth consideration in view of the magnificent magnitude of the whole return to uwuers The following table in illustration shows the comparative product of all the New York tracks for 1905 and 1000. Organization. 1005. 100G. Jockey Club Increased its offerings over 1005 by 7,266. The Westchester Racing Association by 7,545; Brighton Beach Racing Asso-v elation by 1,567: Metropolitan Jockey Club by ,015 and the Queens County Jockey CIub by 1,-240. On the other hand Saratoga fell off 5,530; Brooklyn, 3,105, and Buffalo, ,8S0. Announcements already- made show that there Is to be a decided gain in 1907 over 1906, the Coney Island Jockey Club and Westchester Racing Association in particular, offering material Increases. The number of racing days at each track, number of races run and dally average of money won were as follows: Racing Races Dally Tracks. Days. Run. Average. Average. .213 1312 1,181.80 Considering the men that won the most money it is James R. . Keene who comes but at the head in New York-racing, as be also did last year. He had no Sysonby to sweep the big stakes his way, but his Castleton-bred youngsters came gallantly to the rescue after the death of that great racer and, together with Peter Pan, Court Dress, Ballot, Mentha, Superman, and the smaller fry of the stable rolled up 54t700 . -for their owner, a very comfortable sum, but a. falling off from the 28,724 that fell to, his share In 1905. Racing is a profitable business to "Mr. Keene. Including tills year his stable earnings aggegate the huge sum of 47,740 for his last three years. Only one other owner won over 00,000, this being T. Hitchcock, Jr., with 17,375. Last year three exceeded that sum, those besides Mr. Keene being H. P. Whitney, with 70,-447, and S. Paget, with 87,335. Both fell off greatly. Mr. Whitney to 7,755 and Mr. Paget to 1906.sh6,258. Tbtf inference is that the money was better and more widely distributed in 1000 than in 1905 and it Is backed up by the fact that the owners winning 0,000 or more in 1900 numbered sixty-three against fifty-four in 1905. Of these Accountant put James Brady high up in the list with 3,040 winnings as compared with 7,205 In 1905. Accountant proved a much more profitable purchase to Brady than Oiseau, although the latter did not do so badly. The Newcastle Stable, with Millers riding one" of its bust assets, had a prosperous year and finished fifth in the winning list with a pleasing total of 5,240. Western owners figured extensively and profitably In New York racing, P. J. Rainey ranking first in winning 3,030, but others that did well were the Ormondale Stable, 1,290; J. A. Drake, 0,500; George J. Long, 0,010; George C. Bennett, 8,100; W. S. Williams, 6,150; J. W. Fuller, 4,050; W. Clay, 3,000; Barney. Schreiber, 2,-020, and C. 15. Rowe, with 9,145. Last year A. Belmont won 3,494; this year bis horses could gather but 2,330. Last year R. T. Wllsou, Jr.s horses von 7,295; this year they almost doubled that sum with 1,420. Billy Lake-laud increased his winnings materially from 1,115 last year, to 9,455, because Electioneer won the Futurity for Mm. Altogether ninety-five owners won ,000 or more and their names and ranking are as follows: Owners. , 1st. 2L 3d. Anit. J. R. Keene 32 42 36 54,709 T. Hitchcock, Jr. .30 28 80 117,375 II. P. Having won 5,430 when a two-year-old this sturdy youug thoroughbred has now won in all 1906.sh0,000 and if he retains his good form next year will not be long in crossing the line separating from the American winners of 00,000 or more. Next to film comes the Futurity winner, Electioneer, with 3,701, the best two-year-old pf the year, Salvidere following close up with 1,085. Another two-year-old, unlucky . Water Pearl, is fourth in the list with ,2,560. Then comes a representative of the elder division in the Suburban winner. Go Between, with 8,255 amassed by the stout son of Meddler. Court Dress ranks next with 1,094, and is the leading money earner among the two-year-old fillies. Dandelion "did best as a representative of Hamburg in the handicap class, with 0,620, and was an extremely good racehorse in the midsummer racing. The champion sprinter did extremely well with 7,890 when his limited range of racing is coisIderet. De Mund was not after all such a gold brick as he was voted at one stage, his "8,600 and chances ahead justifying his purchase. Burgomasters two races, two victories and 7,0S5 cannot but excite regret because of the misfortune that enforced his early retirement from racing. The strictly western owned horses that did best for their owners were Oran, 0,835; Tokalon, 9,455; Dishabille, 8,400; Sir Huon, 7,355; Kentucky Beau, 71275; Fouutainblue, 4,725; Nealon, 3,425; Sewell, 1,025, and Nannie Hodge, ,715. A percentage of .27 in 844 mounts talks for itself. Last year in the New York field, Frank ONeill anjfl W. Knapp were tied with eighty-nine winningi mounts each, ONeill excelling slightly in percentage with .20 to Knapps .19. The disparity between their records and Millers Is strikingly in favor of the latter and one cannot but wonder what the future of the boy will be. His nearest rival, the Chicago lad, Radtke, scored 81 wins and a respectable percentage. His unfortunate temperament is against him, but he has had a severe lesson and may take It to heart next year. Ill-fated Sewell was third with seventy-one wins. Then in order came Koerner, Horner, Garner, Shaw and J. Martin with over fifty successful mounts each. The first three are promising boys. Shaw gave some masterly exhibitions, but Is to ride abroad next year. Martin rode as "well as could Ie desired at times, and Indifferently frequently. Hildebrand seema to have lost skill and confidence. W. Dugan is a good rider. The jockeys who rode three or more wimiers are: Jockeys. Mts. 1st 2d. 3d. Unp.P.C. W. To him it fell to prepare the winners of sixty-four horses for various, owners and lie is a trainer without a superior as well as a marvelous rooter when-. his horses are in action. Another accomplished trainer; Thomas Welsh, won second honors with, a score of forty-three races won. Then followed James Rowe;- premier among jockeys in his youthful days and a trainer of great" worth In all respects and very much, of a mau.toyboot, with thirty-three races. John E.. Madden and F.
