Firebrand revelled in the going, quickly drawing into a safe lead, broke fast and was never in danger. Anna Smith was always in nearest pursuit and was "in a drive all of the last quarter, but could not get up and was all out at the end to stall qff. Hooray. The latter had no mishaps, did his best and finished gamely. Lawsonlan finished well and will win when rightly placed. The Clown was eased up when beaten after running well to the stretch. Oleroso showed speed, jumped cleanly and had no mishaps. Russell Sage was well up in the early stages, but finally sulked. Northville also sulked and would not jump. Mon-fort seemed at home in the going and forced the pace to the home turn, then challenged and, securing a safe lead quickly, had speed to spare at the end. Orphan Lad was i-utrun for the first half, but saved ground next to thf rail all the way and, finishing gamely under a hard drive through lha stretch, out-atayed Tourenue. The latter was shut off several times and Interfered with on the stretch turn, but ran a good race and finished resolutely. Lorlng quit badly after showing the most speed to the stretch. Angler ran In close pursuit of Avaunteer and, when the latter quit, drew into a decisive lead at once and won cantering. Sonoma Belle ran a good race, but was outclassed by the winner. Agile was outrun in the first part of the race and could not get up in the stretch. Avaunteer showed a superior flight of early speed, but failed to stay and can do much better.
