Graudita was closest in pursuit, followed the leader closely and, with better handling, might have been a mo-c serious contender. Fire Alarm began slowly and raced Into a contending position after going a half, then tired slightly as if short In the closing strides.. King Leopold was always under vigorous handling and seemed to be shy of speed. Lady Arion could never get up. The others were always outrun. John Garner ran in close attendance on Knowledge for half the journey, then moved up resolutely, came fast through the stretch and won with speed in reserve. St. Tammany began slowly, but moved up on the turn for home and finished gamely, but all out. and pulled up very lame. Raviana closed a gait, ran -i good race and was easily best of the others. Knowledge showed the most early speed in the going and was a contender to the last sixteenth, when his saddle slipped and Koerner was compelled to ease him up. Nat B. closed an early gap, ran a good race and outstayed Debar in the stretch drive. The latter ran back to the form of his previous good race, showed superior speed for seven-eighths and then tired. Noel ran fairly well. Besterling had no mishaps and ran disappointingly. Martius revelled in the going, wore down the leaders in the stretch run and outgamcd Black Art in the final drive. The latter showed a liking for the going, set a fast pace and raced Sorrel Top into defeat and had nothing left to stall off the challenge of the winuer. Sorrel Top ran well, but swerved badly to the inside in the stretch run, which cost him second place. Goldproof closed a big gap and finished fast. Bensonhurst showed a flash of speed, then tired. Adesso was forward contender nearly all the way and was easily I test of the dtherM Trenola came fast In the stretch aud outgamed Field Lark for third place. Field Lark ran well but tired iu the final drive. Pirate Polly was a serious contender for a half mile, when her saddle slipped and Koerner was compelled to ease her up the remainder of the way.
