Christmastide, from a flying start, ran in close pursuit of the leaders and drew out gamely right at the end under punishment. Furze, away badly, quickly closed a big gap and appeared the winner In the stretch, but tired, was palpably short and will easily reverse this running later on. Aznsa established, a long early lead and held sway to the final sixteenth, then tired. Pescadera. after forward running, tired in the last quarter. Korosilany was prominent for five furlongs. May Amelia was shuffled to the rear early and closed a gap. Avona was given a bad start. Lady Ormondale had a rough early journey. Reba was knocked back at the start. Gromobol maintained a forward position early and was shut off at the half, but finished gamely through the stretch and earned second place under the whip. Elmdale was In early close and unavailing pursuit of the winner and tired In the closing drive, was palpably short and ran a good race. Alta Spa ran prominently, held on well and will Improve. Im Joe, away badly, closed a big middle gap, but went wide on the last turn, menaced the leader momentarily in the stretch, but tired finally under a bad ride. Silver Sue closed a big early gap, then tired In the last quarter. Watchful took a contending position on the far turn and unexpectedly failed in the stretch. Jim Pendergast made up ground. Harbor beat the barrier and quickly relinquished his advantage, but afterwards maintained nearest pursuit of tlie winner, gamely saving second place. Earl Rogers, in an outside position and away slowly, was carried wide on the first turn, but moved up gradually and appeared dangerous in the stretch, but tired at the end. Orchan, away slowly, saved ground on the turns, but could never get up and ran a bad race. Water Cure, after trailiug to the stretch, finished with a rush. Duelist showed speed, but failed to stay. Morendo was lucky and always in forward contention and drew out decisively when straightened for home. Lazell was always prominent and went wide on the last turn, but put up a game stretch struggle under a bad ride. Dutiful showed superior early speed again, but failed to stay and quit very badly. Sherry, shut off at the half and badly messed about, finished with a belated rush and is extra good. Bonar, away very badly, closed a big gap. Elie was knocked back on the first turn and made up an Immense amount of ground. Bombardier ran poorly and likes mud. Isabelita suffered in a mix-up on the first turn. The latter moved up gradually on the far turn and, challenging like a cyclone at the end, just failed t get up. Bob Ragon, badly ridden nnd under a pull and pocketed in the early running, loomed up in the stretch and was eased up at the end.
