OXFORD TO GO FOR THE WASHINGTON CUP. Washington, D. C, November 22. Oxfords easy victory In the race at one mile and seventy yards, wherein he Carried 130 pounds, at Bennings" Tuesday afternoon, has brought from James McLaughlin the announcement that the grey son of Faraday will be a starter for the Washington Cup, which is to be the feature for Thanksgiving Day, and also the Maximum , Stakes, which will be decided the closing day of the meeting. The distance of the Washington Cup is two and one-quarter miles and the Maximum. Stakes is three miles, the longest race in the east. While speed is popularly supposed to be Oxfords forte, Mr. McLaughlin says he has no doubt as t6 the grey colts stamina. In support of his argument that Oxford "can run all day," he points to his victories in, the Buffalo Derby and the Oriental Handicap. Ben" Crockett won both of the Bennings races named last year.
