PALLADIA PROVES TO BE A STAYER. "Talking of winning in mud, Palladia, a three-year-old daughter of Islington rather surprised people by winning a two-mile hurdle race at Chalms-ford, for she is a light little filly, nothing of her in fact, added to which she is a poor feeder," says an English racing critic. "Yet she beat eleven others seven of them older horses in really good style by a coupleof lengths, carrying 142 pounds and incidentally bringing off a G to 1 chance. The class, of course, was poor, otherwise she would have figured at much longer odds. Her dam, Palotta, is by Gallhiulc out of Maid of Kilcreene, by Arbitrator, and as Islington is own brother to Isinglass, this looks as if Palladia ought to stay, but as a matter of fact she never ran in a longer race on the Hat than seven furlongs and won nothing."- Islington is now in America for the second time, having been brought over during- the summer by H. T. Oxnard. It has not been determined whether he is to stand iu Virginia or iu Kentucky next season.
