REJECTABLE WINS STAKES. KENTUCKY STEEPLECASE, LATONIA FEATURE, CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS. Old Honesty Lucky to Win Handicap Prince Ahmed Is Badly Ridden Joe Moscr Scores for Mr. Respess. Cincinnati, O., June 18. The Kentucky Steeplechase Stakes over the Clubhouse course, worth ,115 net to the winner, was won by Rejectable from John Dillon, coupled with Dell Loath as the Libby entry. Class Leader, an added starter, taking the small portion of the purse. The race was replete with mishaps, and of the seven starters only four finished the course. Dell Lcath was the first to come to grief. He was running in a forward position when he blundered at the fourth jump. Potash at this point wrested the lend from John Dillon and continued to show the way until the last jump in the field was reached, where he appeared a certain winner, but stumbled and fell after taking the jump. The mishap to Potash again gave the lead to John Dillon, but in the stretch drive Rejectable wore him down with ease. Graceland, which had third place secure, fell at the stretch hurdle. Pierpont. the other starter, had not taken the stretch hurdle when the others had finished. Old Houestv and. Prince Ahmed, , booth Queen City Handicap cligibles, finished first and second in the handicap at three-quarters, which was the secondary feature of the racing this afternoon. Old Honesty, although running a good race, the best he has shown in some time, was, lucky to get home in front of Prince Ahmed. The latter was ridden by W. Ott, a diminutive 75-pounder. and was run into by Frontcnac at the start, which caused him to stumble. When straightened out the others were at least thirty lengths in front of Prince Ahmed. Gradually he decreased the distance separating him from the others and saving ground into the stretch eamo- with- an electric rush which carried him to within a length of the winner. He was worked out a mile and a furlong, which he covered iu 1:552, pulling up. He was timed separately the first mile from the three-quarter ijpst to the same point in a fraction less than 1:39. J. B. Respess colors were iu evidence for the first time at the meeting. They were carried in the opening race by Joe Moser, a two-year-old by Maceo Helens Pet. He won all the way like a rare good one, and afforded his owner an opportunity to win a good sized wager. Tills was the only winner that J. Lee rode during the afternoon. Favorites suffered defeat in all the races excepting the last won by Quagga. The latter was extensively supported. The owner of Old Honesty instructed his rider to work the liorse out a mile and a furlong, but Austin was evidently too.-coufused and forgot the instructions. On their respective showings today, Prince Ahmed, holds Old Honesty safe iu the big race. . T. IL Ryan arrived today from California with True Wing and Kokomo; both horses shipped iu splendid condition. ; Miller Henderson arrived here today from Louisville with fourteen horses owned by Ed Alveyi The latter joiued the ranks of layers and operated a book during the afternoon. W. Wells, acting for D. N. Prewitt, secured today the services of jockey Nlcol to pilot The Minks iu the Queen City Handicap. By running the Clubhouse course In 3:25g, Rejectable clipped four-fifths of a second from the best previous mark for. the same distance.
