BUFFALO FOLKS ARE PLEASED. In telling of the successful opening of tlie meeting at Kenilworth Park Saturday, the Buffalo Express of Sunday said: II. M. Gerrans, president of the Buffalo Racing Association; came in for unstinted praise. For years Mr. Gerrans lias been striving unselfishly to make racing a success in Buffalo and regarded as one of Buffalos lea.liug sportsmen, it not its leader, he had every right to lay claim to yesterdays success as something of a personal triumph. Hut Mr. Gerrans was not claiming any credit. "I glad to see it," said he modestly. Manager Joseph A. Murphy, who presided in the stand, was congratulated on the fine start of the meeting, and not a man or woman among the many distinguished visitors hut expressed the greatest satisfaction over the outlook for the sport locally. Perhaps the man most pleased was Sain Lazarus, the Texan who is associated witli Mr. Murphy in the control of the plant. "Say1." said he. as he toasted M,r. Seagram after the Derby, "I told the band to give us Wearing of the Green if Madigan won, but I was awfully afraid we would have to let them play God Save the King." "Next time." laughed Mr. Seagram. "Well, next time, dont forget that you may be trying for a 5,000 stake here," said Mr. Lazarus, "liuffalo looks the ideal spot to reproduce the American Derby, and why should not this course. lie the Washington Park of the future?" And they all chorused "Why not?"
