IILLALOES FAST TRIAL. WHITNEY FILLY WILL HAVE BIG FOLLOWING FOR SARATOGA HANDICAP. Dandelion Arrives But Does Not Work Ballot Not Among Those Named to Start Good Racing in Prospect. Saratoga, X. Y., August ti.U is probable that Killaloe will be heavily backed for the Saratoga Handicap Monday. The daughter of Kilmarnock and Jinks showed a trial this morning which is the fastest yet run over the Saratoga track this season. She ran a mile and a quarter In 2:00j and had good weight up, more, probably, than she will have to carry Monday, her impost for tlie race being 10J pounds. Gallavant, which was well liked by many, worked late in tlie afternoon and did the mile and a quarter in 2:09. Red Leaf could only make the distance in 2:09 and her chances arc not considered to be very good unless the track becomes muddy. Both McCarter and Running Water have had regular work since coming here and were not sent the handicap distance this morning, their task being a mile and a furlong gallop, which McCarter did in 1:55J, and Running Water in l:5s. Ironsides, which is named to go as a stable companion o Killaloe, galloped a mile and a quarter In 2:10, and it is plain that the hope of the stable is centered in the three-year-old filly. Dandelion, which only reached the track last night, was not worked, as his race in the Invincible on Thursday put him on edge, and a slow gallop tomorrow will bo all that he needs. Tangle Is carded to go also but little is known of her present condition. Many were inclined to the belief that Ballot would start in the race, but his name was not telegraphed from Xew York tonight and It Is not believed that trainer Rowc will ask the Voter colt to take up tho. impost of 120 pounds, Including tlie five-pound penalty for winning the Invincible. While the class of the over-Sunday entries for the handicap is not so good as it might be, everything points to an interesting race. The track la In tip top order, for, notwithstanding tho excellent time made by Killaloe this morning, there Is a good cushion to the course and horsemen believe that it will be perfectly safe. It will not be surprising to see the record for the race, 2:01J, made by Dandelion last year, equaled Monday, Dr. Gardner, which was looked upon as a possible starter for the race, was galloped seven furlongs In 1:,11, but his work was so unsatisfactory that trainer Weir did not post him as a starter, lie was trying to run out ail the way and did not seem to relish the task at all. A good field is named for the Flash. Slakes, the two-year-old fixture, while some of the fastest chasers in tlie east will.be colored for the Saratoga Steeplechase. The closing race for maiden two-year-olds is interesting in as much as Burgher, a full brother to Burgomaster, is named to go as well as Onatassa, which is supposed to be the crack youngster of tlie "Sanford string. Whatever success the Empire City meeting may have, it is not believed here that it will have the slightest effect on either the attendance at Saratoga or in the general Interest in this meeting. Tlie town is fast filling up with visitors. The hotel accommodations are pretty well booked up for the first of tlie week. Every stall at the track, and there are 1,200 of them, is engaged and the association lias been compelled to secure a hundred or more on the outside. The meeting starts off with excellent prospects in spite of the Xew York opposition and there Is no reason to believe that this seasons success of the other Jockey Club tracks will not be repeated here.
