Garrett set the pace after Jimmy Lane fell and carried Essex II. along so fast that the latter blundered at the tenth jump, after which Garrett came on and won in leisurely fashion. Essex II., a promineut and game contender for nearly two miles, landed badly at the tenth jump and could never get up to the winner afterwards. Paprika showed speed for a mile, then tired. Jimmy Lane made the running for six furlongs before he took oft" too far and fell at the sixth jump. Saylor broke slowly, but secured a lucky forward position on the first turn, was then reserved In close pursuit- of Druid and finally wore her down after a terrific stretch drive. Druid outbroke und outpaced the others to the last stride and Is extra good. Iteidinoore began slowly and lost ground on the first turn and in the early running, then closed up ispidly in the last half, but was not quite good enough. Lally. away poorly, closed a gap in a fast, but belated, rush. Samuel II. Harris made up considerable ground in the last six furlongs. Clements lacked speed and is best in mud. Velours showed superior speed for a half mile and is worth remembering. The winner, entered for 1,000, was bid up to 2,000 and bought by J. O. McCall. Master Rabert broke slowly, but closed up rapidly at the half and. after a terrific furlong tussle on the turn, drew out decisively and won off. Live AAire, from a good start, moved up simultaneously with the winner, was crowded on the last turn, losing ground, but succumlied soon after and was not good enough. Rialto, crowded back at the start, closed a big gap into a fast coming third. Ziephen showed superior early sjieed and tired after going a game half, but finished gamely. Frizette set and forced tm paeu until joined by Master Robert and Live AVire, when both crowded her out, and she was pulled up sharply on the last turn and never dangerous afterwards. Charles Edward decisively outbroke and outnaccd Frank Gill for the first mile, but after that lie commenced to tire iiiid was only able to hold his own to the end. Frank Gill lost ten lengths by a slow start and was badly outpaced for six furlongs and under the whip while going up the backstretch, was gaining on the leader ou the far turn, but could not get up, although going fully as well as the winner. Smirker broke slowly, but steadily improved his position, loomed up on the last turn and made good decisively iu the stretch. AVm. II. Lyon, from a Hying start, made the running by a wide gap to tho stretch, where he succumbed quickly and was a lucky second. Servile, well up from the start, dropped back on the turn, but came again with a rush at the end. Tartar Maid unexpectedly tired after a half utile of close and strenuous pursuit of the pacemaker. Gun Cotton broke slowly and got into forward contention quickly, but dropped out in the last quarter. Moutbert, nearly left, made up a little ground. The winner was entered for 1,500; no bid.
