RESULTS OF THE THIRTEEN DERBY RACES Ort 190?iIN-TEt UNITED STATES AND CANADA. There is to be no renewal of the Saratoga Derby this year, so the Brighton Derby, which was won yesterday by Charles Edward from his only opponent, Frank Gill, In the fast time of 2:30 for the mile and one-half, was the last and most valuable of the thirteen races of 1007 iu the United States and Canada bearing the name "Derby." These races are Derbys iu little other than the name. None of them follows .strictly the conditions of Englands famous event from which the title comes. Only three the races at Latouia, Brooklyn and Brighton are at the .true distance one mile and a half. The American Derby, which had its home at the now dismantled Washington Park, and which was last run iii 1004 Highballs- year- was the nearest approach we had to the real Derby In this country and there was no race in the land exclusively for three-year-olds that attracted such widespread Interest. The Kentucky Derby carries more interest than any of the surviving events of the name, but it is far from general. Interest in the other races is for the greater part sectional.
