GRANDE DAMES FOURTH VICTORY. Hendries Undefeated Filly Wins the Niagara Stakes at Fort Erie. Buffalo, X. Y., August George Hendries Grande Dame, the unbeaten daughter of The Commoner Xobiesse, scored her fourth victory in the Xiagara Stakes, the feature race of an attractive program at Fort Erie this afternoon. As the barrier was released Grande Dame showed in front, but immediately wheeled around and struck Toinnabat. Bolaml pulled her up and she was as good as left at the post. Before they had gone a furlong Grande Dame was almost a dozen lengths out of it and seemed beaten. Rounding the far turn, however, she got settled in her stride and began to move up. She overhauled the leaders rapidly and, when entering the homestretch, was in a contending position. In the stretch run she caught and passed Aquiline and won going away. Grande Dames victory today qualifies her for her enageinent in the Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga Wednesday next. The Canadian bred three-year-old Denham went to the front in the lirst dozen strides of the fifth race and, after setting a rapid pace, won under restraint in the fast time of 1:12J for the three-quarters of a mile. The Hendrie Stable showed up a likely looking maiden in this race in Gold Din. This colt is one of the best looking liorses racing here. lie had never been to the post before and ran a bit green, but the indications are that he will be a top-notcher. The steeplechase furnished a chapter of mishaps. -First Battle Creek, Flylug Dlover and Roderick ran a quarter to a false break. Boyle was unable to pull Roderick up and he lwlted into one of the ditches, unseated his rider and galloped off another quarter before he was caught. When it came to the running Battle Creek lost his rider, while Dr. Heard was jumped on and had one of the tendons in his off foreleg almost severed. Flying Dlover struck one of the obstacles with considerable force and was pulled up. The winner turned up in Sam Parmer, one of the outsiders, which beat Kilmorie out three lengths. There was a change from the original arrangement of tlie card. The first race was run as the fifth and the fifth as the first. Jockey Shilling was fined 5 by the judges for rough riding in the third race. Entering the homestretch Deter Knight, his mount, carried Henry 0. to the outside fence. This interference cost Henry O. the race. J. I. Clayton, having disposed of all the liorses he brought here except Bardoe, will leave for Lexington with this one Tuesday. Bardoe is a full brother to Haber and is a colt of promise. Clayton will take up fifteen yearlings which K. P. Shipp has at the Kentucky Association course.
