QUADRILLES HANDICAP. I SON OF RAPALLO WINS THE FEATURE AT EMPIRE CITY TRACK. "V- Polly Prim Easily Shows Her Heels to Pre tension Hayes Pays His Forfeit , and His Horses Start. T New York, August 12. The feature race at the Empire City track this afternoon was the Mount Vernon Handicap at about three-quarters of a mile in which the speedy live-year-old Quadrille, from the barn of Dick Watkins, unbacked save by his stable connections, won easily after racing the heavily weighted Goldproof into submission. Haensel was the favorite, but tired under the fast pace and was lucky to finish third. Iu the third race Polly Prim, lately arrived from Fort Erie, had all of her speed and won in a canter by ten lengths from Pretension, after haviug been . heavily backed. Corncob, the odds-on favorite for the opening race, led all the way and won practically as his rider pleased. The second race was taken easily by the second choice Taunt from Kemp Bidegley, with La Veita, the odds-on favorite, a tiring third. Albert Star, another second choice, won the fifth nice after a drive with Inauguration, which finished four lengths in front of Parisian Model, the odds-on favorite. Cobmosa, the favorite for the last race was defeated by the second choice Princess Orna. The attendance today numbered about 7,000. The transportation facilities are still bad and this doubtless kept many away. General Manager Winn says he has been assured by the transportation people that there will be speedy improvement in the running of trains. T. P. Hayes has paid his forfeits to the Jockey Club and there is now no restriction against his racing here. Jockey L. AVilliams has signed a contract to ride for Captain J. T. Williams. , The stables of It. L. Thomas, A. J. Gorey, J. A. Sykes and Ed Moore have arrived from Fort Erie. Among the horses brought here from Fort Erie by W. Walker is Blacklock, which he purchased from H. Schmidt just before he left the Canadian track.
