GATES TO RACE IN ENGLAND. New York, August 12. John W. Gates has planned to participate in the racing in England next year and C. E. Durnell is to be the manager and trainer of his stable. This, It Is said on good authority, is the real reason for Durnells an-nouneesient that he will sell all of his horses at Saratoga tills week. As soon as he settles up his affairs here Durnell will go to England and buy for Mr. Gates such horses as he fancies and can procure. It is understood that Mr. Gates has made his arrangements to remain abroad for a year or more. While be will spend some of his time in France, he will be in England during the racing season of 190S, where it Is said he will have a place near Newmarket. Mr. Gates has had some experience In English racing. He was abroad witli John A. Drake vvhen he, with Enoch WIshard as trainer of an establishment in England, cut such a wide swath.
