DREAMER WINS CATSKILL. DURYEAS GELDING HEAVILY BACKED FOR THE SARATOGA FEATURE. Sewell Equals the Track Record of 1:24 4-5 for Seven-eighths of a Mile in the Opening Handicap. Saratoga, X. V., August 12. The Catskill Selling Stakes for three-year-olds and upward at seven-eighths of a mile, was the fourth huuiIkt and the feature of an average card of six races at the local course this afternoon and was won by II. 15. Dur-yeas five-year-old hay gelding Dreamer, by Hamburg Forget. Dreamer was the favorite, backed by the public and the wise brigade to the exclusion of his seven opponents. Jacobite, under the pilotage of K. Dugan, made the running until well Into the stretch, closely attended by Troublemaker and Uyc. Knapp held Dreamer within striking distance until entering tin; last, quarter when he sent tin; gelding up and, riding him out, won "by a length from Hye, which had two lengths the better of the tiring Jacobite at. the end. The race was run in 1 :25, within one-fifth of a second of the track record and one ami two-fifths seconds better than the previous best time made in tiiis fixture, the tabled history of which is as follows: Year. In the -opening- race, the handicap at seven-eighths of a mile, Sewell. properly ridden by the lightweight Heckman, equalled the track record of 1:24 made by Sir Lynnewood last August. Had there been occasion for it, lie undoubtedly could have run in faster time. Walter Miller, who had ridden the winner of the first race the previous six days, had the mount on the favorite, J. 0. Core, but tin best he could do was second. The Wrestler made the running to the stretch, hut retired, as usual. J. W. Colts lightly weighted Paprika was a surprise in. the steeplechase handicap. lie took the lead over the eleventh obstacle and won as his rider pleased, with Mooksle and Amanda H. following him far back and the favorite Garrett out of the money. Woodford Clays Nimbus was the odds-on favorite for the third race and won easily from the second choice. Desirous, in l:0ij, which was only a fraction slower than the track record for the live and one-lialf furlongs. This was the fourth successive victory for Nimbus and his sixth wiu out of twelve starts. .Missouri Lad, the favorite for the fifth race, nver left the result in doubt. Kilter and Ocean Spray had a drive for second place and the latter was only a head in front of the tiring Lally at the end. The Ilayman-McCarren connections undertook to cut a melon in the last race when they backed Man-helmer from 20 to 12 to 1, lint they could not get any of the meat. Manheimer set a fast, pace to the stretch, but was ,hort. Magazine, unbacked, ran him in close pursuit and won easily from Chu-lita, the favorite, she a length In front of Gene Russell, a head better than the exploited good thing. Stamina, which was to have been II. P. Whitneys representative in the Saratoga Special, is on the sick list. Saturday morning when her attendant opened Staminas stall he found her suffering from a high fever, her temperature being 10:!S. No serious results are looked for, but it will be several days before she will be able to resume her gallops.
