PRINCESS TITANIA IS NOW RETIRED. End of the Turf Career of J. D. Millins Honest and Serviceable Racer. Princess Titania, the nine-year-old bay mare hy Masetto Queen-Titania, was so badly cut down in the closing race at Seattle last Friday that J. D. Milllu, Jier owner, says her usefulness as a racing tool is at an end. Recently he was offered ,500 for her for breeding purposes and now that a tendon in one of her hind legs has been completely severed he will probably sell her. The injury to the mare, it is said, was due to "Cricket" Kellys old trick or weaving in and out of the field. Princess Titania was one of the most consistent performers on the turf, having earned money in seventy per cent, of the 145 races in . which she started during eight years of running. Sprinting was her game and she was good at it. Three-quarters of a mile was her favorite distance and It was no trick at all for her to run it any day In better than 1:14, her fastest time being 1:121. . With the exception of two. at Brighton Beach and one at Gravesend in the summer of 1904, Princess Titania ran all of her races on the Pacific Coast. She- ran six races at Ascot Park and two at "Seattle. The remainder, 134, were run at the San Francisco meetings. Princess Titania was first owned by A. J. Stemler and won her lirst race for him at Oakland on Christmas day in 1900. The following year she became the property of the late Ccasar Yonng. J. D. Millin bought her from Young in December 1902. The Follansbee Highweight Handicap and the Adam Andrew Selling Stakes were her most notable victories. Her best race at a mile was her second to Bearcatchcr when that speedy son of St. George won the Crocker Selling Stakes at Oakland, December 9, 1905, in 1:3SJ.
