It was Hunt Club day, and as special features theie were two steeplechases, both over the two-mi le course, and a race for hunters on the fiat at a mile and a quarter. The conditions of one of the jumping races called for horses owned and bred by farmers on the island of .Montreal, and in the county of Lavat. This race brought out a field of four, and it resulted iu a driving finish between Toinuiv and Bose, iu which the former won by a length". The hunters fiat race also furnished a stirring contest, in which three of the four starters were under a terrific drive all through the homestretch, with Brick Top getting up in the final stride and beating Diuin Tart out a head on the post. Dlum Tart will be remembered by racegoers as the mare which won at Washington Iatk on .lulv 2. 1901, at odds of 200 to 1. when racing in the colors of the Canadian turfman, George Hendrie. . , In the open steeplechase Cardigan proved a big surprise by winning in a romp from Iioneer. Merry Maker, the favorite, fell at the eleventh jump and with him out of the way, Cardigan had an easy time of it. The Chefs performance was below" his true form. At no stage of the trip was he a factor and the finish found him last of his ,1Cnie Canadians put through a good thing when Dlatoou won the opening event from Lee Harrison II. Dlatoou was heavily supported by the Toronto delegation. Bye Bye II., heavily supported at. a short price, proved ail easv winner in the fifth race. Steeplechase jockey W. Henrys handling of the favorite, Bose, in the seventh race was far from pleasing to the stewards and as a result. Henry was told not to accept any more mounts at the meeting. The suspension against jockey Musgrave lias been lifted so far as bis stable is concerned. He will be permitted to ride for his employer and at tin-conclusion of the meeting the ban against him will be lifted. .Tockev Goldstein left for Toronto tonight with his employer, E. L. Talley.
