Grazlallo fenced poorly, made up lost ground on the Hat and quit finally, but got a bad ride. Chief Hayes, in a forward position from the slart in the inside deep going, made good decisively in th- Ktretch and was easily best, highani showed the most early speed ami drew out like the- winner, but weakened finally and ran a good race. Clare Russell, away poorly, closed up fast and held a prominent position to the last turn, where she dropped back, came again unexpectedly and finished as well as the leaders. Golden Shore displayed amazing early speed, sustained it surprisingly well after having run away two miles before the race and might have won but for the mishap. Beacon Light, always within striking distance of the other two, could never quite get up in a remarkably game effort. Lancastrian, outclassed here, put up a meritorious performance. Glaucus was prominent throughout, but barely saved third place from Himalaya. The latter was also a forward contender for five furlongs and then tired. Ariel finished close up and going well.
