NEED OF WESTERN JOCKEY CLUB. Steward M. Nathanson ot the Western Jockey Club has the following to say about the Western Jockey Club and the exploded story that it was to wind up its affairs and go out of existence: "There have been plenty of rumors about tho club disbanding," lie said, "but these have mostly emanated from the east. It is true no track under our active jurisdiction is now running. But we have kept up the Western Jockey Club for nearly three years with no Chicago course having any active part in the racing. In case of favorable legislation In this or other states, what would be the governing power if we were to disband? "To retire now would simply leave the field In the hands of any Individual track which might start. The turf needs a governing power in the west as well as in the east. The tracks at New Orleans this winter have arranged matters amicably, but there is need of a central body in case of arguments."
