RUNNING WATER FETCHES 5,200. Newcastle, Sanford and Thomas Racehorses Sell for Excellent Prices. New York, September 12. The finest collection of racers in training that has been offered at public auction in recent years were sold at the dissolution of partnership sale of the famous Newcastle Stable confederacy in the Fasig-Tipton paddocks at Sheepsliead Bay. The lot, which comprised ten head, included turf stars of the first magnitude, fetched 4,S00. Tremendously keen competition prevailed throughout. Every horse put up was seeming In great demand, many bidders participating. No ode? for less than 1,000 was even considered on any horse put up. Bunning Water was the bright particular star of the sale. C. B. Ellison stopped at 5,100; Tom Welsh then bought her in for an advance of 00. McCarter was also bought in for his owners for 3,000, after Dr. II. E. Bowell iiad gone to 2,500. The last-named gentleman was bidding on behalf of Thomas II. Williams of California, and there were many expressions of regret that the crack three-year-old was not knocked down to that accomplished sportsman. Spooner, the star two-year-old of the stable, fetched less than the ,500 he was thought to be worth, Andrew Miller buying him in. F. C. Bishop is the retiring member of the Newcastle Stable.
