LONG DISTANCE RACING AT BRIGHTON Now York, September ,27. Those who like longdistance racing will be well catered to at Brighton next week, as there will be six races, the distance of which range from one mile and a quarter to two miles and a quarter. These Include the Cup Preliminary, at a mile and a half, and the Brig-.on Cup, at two miles and a quarter, but owners of platers with an inclination to go a distance are equally well served. On .Monday there is a race at one mile and a quarter, to be followed on Wednesday by one at a mile and a half, and again on Saturday, when the distance will he increased to one mile and three-quarters. The conditions for the last two races are so arrangeel that a previous winner of the series must take up five pounds. This is a condition that should be pleasing, as it prevents one horse from capturing the series without having to pay the penalty of his previous victory. There will also he a race of two miles on the fiat for horses which have raced under National Steeplechase and Hunt rules, with the minimum weight of 140 pounds. In addition to the Triumph Stakes, at one mile, there w-ill be a selling event for two-year-olds at this distance. All in all, the Brighton meeting of one week will smack very strorigly of old-fashloued racing, when the distances were all strung out at this season of the year.
