Welbourne made the running at a slow pace undisturbed for half the journey, which enabled him to make good in the ensuing closing sprint, to which the race was reduced. Perseverance was knocked back by Welbourne when making a move on the inside at the half and came again, but just failed to get up in a whirlwind stretch rush. Yankee Girl was mistakenly reserved under a pull for six furlongs and could never get up afterwards and stripped sore. Miss Crawford had no mishaps and finished well, but ran below her true form. Aster dOr, after trailing, made up ground rapidly iu the last half and will do to watch. Lotus, from a slow inside start and inadequately ridden and pulling up repeatedly, closed a big gap at the end and probably was best.
